Nelson Funeral Homes - Fessenden Obituary

Annie Volochenko, 95, longtime Kief resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Annie, daughter of Emmanuel and Mary (Heth) Rust, was born on November 16th, 1922 on the family farm 11 miles south of Kief where she was raised and attended a nearby country school on the former Jorgenson land.

Annie married Alvin Volochenko in 1949 and lived on a farm just one mile west of where she was born and raised. On this farm she milked many cows and they also raised range cows. In 1964 they purchased and moved to the Ebel farm 4 miles south of Kief.

In the years that followed, they raised many different types of farm animals and grains. Annie also pursued a full-time rabbitry business and sold many rabbits to the area residents for a number of years. She also loved chickens and kept them until about 2010 at her home in Kief. Annie also enjoyed trains and would make a point of watching them as they rolled past Kief on a regular basis. In later years, she collected different spoons from various parts of the United States.

In 1974, when her son Roger was severely injured in an accident at the age of 20, Annie unselfishly chose to be his caregiver until his passing at the age of 56. They lived on the family farm 4 miles south of Kief until 1977 when they moved into Kief where Roger had purchased a home and surrounding lots on the west side of town. In 1979, Roger built a house in Apache Junction, AZ where he and Annie spent their winter months. Roger later purchased a home in Maricopa, AZ where they wintered until 2012. Annie continued to reside in Kief until recently becoming a resident of the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

She was a most kind and gracious person who would always have a kind word and warm smile for anyone.

Annie is survived by her children, Audrey Volochenko, Leslie Volochenko and Gary Volochenko; grandchildren, Nathan Volochenko, Tyler Volochenko & Tiffany Volochenko, Jessica Volochenko Lerohl, Jason Volochenko & Joe Volochenko; and great-grandchildren, Jayden Volochenko, Jarrett Volochenko & Jaxton Volochenko.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Stromme & Lucille Volson; children, Robert Lee Volochenko, Baby Girl Volochenko, Darrel Eugene Volochenko and Roger Volochenko; and grandson, Brian Cox.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 11:00 A. M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Butte with burial in the Kief Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held Monday from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake. Public visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
