Queensbury -- Dr. Anthony Joseph Alberti, 79, of Walker Lane, Queensbury, and formerly of Yorktown Heights, passed away Sunday night, Dec. 18, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness.
Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Charles and Nancy "Mary" (Magistro) Alberti.
After graduating from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx, he furthered his education at City College in New York until serving in the United States Navy Medical Corps during World War II as a Pharmacist's Third Class Mate from January of 1945, being honorably discharged July of 1946. Anthony was very proud of his military service.
He then returned to college to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University in the Bronx from 1946 to 1949. He then continued his education at St. Louis University School of Dentistry from 1949 to 1953. His internship was completed at Grasslands Hospital, now known as Westchester County Medical Center, in Valhalla, N.Y., from July of 1953 to July of 1954.
Dr. Alberti opened his private practice in Scarsdale, N.Y. January of 1955, then moved his practice 19 years later to Hawthorne, N.Y., for 18 more years.
While serving his internship, Anthony met Frederica "Fritzie" Ulrich, a student nurse, and later married her Sept. 24, 1955, living in Yorktown Heights for 30 years before moving to Queensbury in October of 1992.
Dr. Alberti loved the beauty of the Adirondacks. It was always his dream to live here. He also loved nature and gardening. His hobbies included coin and stamp collecting, fishing, N.Y. Yankees, and pets. He had a passion for his profession as a dentist and his patients became his friends. His dogs were always a joy and comfort to him, but above all, he loved his family and friends.
Besides his parents, one sister, Grace Alberti DeMatteis, who passed away Oct. 25, 2003, predeceased him.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 loving years, Frederica "Fritzie" Alberti of Queensbury; two daughters, Lisa Victoria Grimm and her husband, Stephen, of Jonesboro, Ga., and Nancy Moschner of Rockaway, N.J.; one grandson, Daniel B. Shearer Jr., serving in the United States Navy in Hawaii; one brother, Joseph Alberti of Montrose, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, many dear friends; his faithful dog "Sunny"; and four grand-pets.
Friends may call upon the family today, Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Busch, pastor of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, Queensbury, officiating.
Burial will immediately follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Because of his love for dogs, Anthony requested that any memorial donations, in his loving memory, be made to SPCA of Upstate New York, P.O. Box 171, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
