Anthony BUA Obituary

BUA, Anthony Joseph (Tony)
Tony passed peacefully in his sleep March 6, 2011, in Sacramento. He was born April 16, 1920 to Joseph and Sarah Bua in Sacramento, CA. He was a graduate of Sacramento High School 1937 and proud member of the Greatest Generation, serving in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific in WWII. When he returned to civilian life he joined the Sacramento Police Department and started his chosen career where he served from 1945 to 1975 retiring as a Sergeant. His most cherished period in the SPD was as a motorcycle officer. He and fellow SPD motorcycle 'cops' enjoyed a special camaraderie not only in Sacramento, but all across the state of California. He was a graduate of a special FBI academy/seminar. He was an avid hunter and traveled to many Western States in search of the perfect buck. He was a gun collector and built a number of black powder weapons that are a treasure to his family. He was an expert marksman and participated in many shooting competitions. He loved clam digging, target shooting, hunting and camping in the Sierras with his sons and hunting buddies. He loved to play cards calling it his second job and was a legend in some of the local card rooms. He loved his parents and their Sicilian culture, especially his mom's spaghetti and meatballs. Tony was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Antoinette; his parents; and two brothers, Bennie and Leonard (Babe) Bua. He is survived by his loving wife Elsie, mother of sons, Richard Bua (Leslie) of Escalon and Michael Bua of Lodi; and his stepchildren that he loved as his own, Douglas McGill (Robie) of Sacramento, Cindy Hammack (Glenn) of Placerville, and Jacqueline Baker (Jon) of Elk Grove; his former wife, Jeanne Morse, mother of his daughter Gina Bua (Robert Koreis) of Vancouver, Washington; brother, Carlo Bua of Carmichael, sisters, Mary Quadros of Sacramento, and Nina Burns (Tom) of Ft. Worth, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy Bua (Nikki) of Carmichael, Nicholas Bua and Michelle Bua of Lodi, Stephanie Stewart (Steve) of Sonora, Shane Bua (Erika) of Escalon, Leah and Ryan Mallett, both serving in the U.S. Army, Kimberly Glenn (Ian) of Cameron Park, Joe Latino of Sacramento, Chelsie and Bailee Baker of Elk Grove; great-grandchildren, Gaige, Haviland, and Ellery Stewart, Tiersy Bua, Ella and Jack Mallett, Elizabeth Olaverz, Ethan Edwards and Evian Glenn. Visitation on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 4-7pm at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. I just learned about your Dad's passing. I am sorry to hear it. I worked with your Dad off and on while we were motorcycle officers back in the 1960's. Your Dad was a good officer and I learned a lot from him. He was always willing to give me advice and information when I needed it. I liked working with him, but there was one thing we all told him. He had a habit of talking to you as we were riding along and in doing so he would often "click" handlebars with you as he got closer. We would keep telling him, stay over away from me. It was one of those things that we all talked about, but never seemed to make any difference.
I respected your Dad and saw him often the last several years at the Sacramento Veteran Police Officer luncheons. It was always a pleasure to talk to him about old times.
We who knew him will miss him.

I met and came to know Mr. Bua many years ago through the Northern California Peace Officers Association.
He was always a gentleman and an asset to the law enforcement community. I was priveleged to know him, and considered him a friend.

I treasured your father and I will miss him more than anyone knows. He was a quiet mentor, and a pillar of strength during that horrible time when I lost my father. We became extremely close especially after Babe died. Tony took Babe’s passing very hard since it was only a year after my own father’s passing. It was during that time when Tony’s tender side came into full view. He was very verbal about his love for me and his entire family and it was his love that helped guide me during that time. I will never forget him. Thanks for sharing so much with me. I hope that your memories of him always put a smile on your face, they do mine!

My dad was my hero. He taught me that you should laugh and have fun in life. That you need to love and protect your family and friends. He always did that for us. I will miss him huge.
