As this popped up on my online feed, a distant memory came Back of how Uncle Tony painted houses in the summers, before going back to teaching. Not sure how long he did this?

Mr. Gianunzio was my high school teacher at Portage Northern High School for the class, Modern Novels.
He made the class fun and interesting. He was one of two influential teachers I had at PNHS and what a surprise to see him a few years after graduation across the street from where my parents lived in Portage at Tony's brother-in-law's home. I was able to say hello to him then. Thank you for your service to the United States in World War II, Mr. Gianunzio. You will always be thought of...

Mr. Gianunzio was one of very few teachers who touched my heart. He taught me the intent and reason for modern novels and the value of reading. He always smiled and was truly a great man.

I was fortunate to not only have Tony as a high-school Creative Writing teacher, but more importantly, have him as an Uncle. I have so many great childhood memories of spending time at my cousins house playing catch with Uncle Tony in the backyard, or just talking. Uncle Tony always made us kids feel welcomed and he was always genuinely interested in what we had to say; which is one of the reasons why he was such a great Uncle and teacher. My thoughts are with his family, much love...

Thankful in his final weeks of declining health daughter Alex was able to Have him stay with family and relatives.

Growing up we spent every Christmas Eve at the Gianunzios family home with Uncle Tony and Aunt Jean and my cousins. These are some of the best memories of my childhood. Tony enjoyed spending time with us, talking about poems he had written and playing cards with the large Greek family and all the great meals. I know he is at peace now as he was with family when he passed. God bless you Uncle Tony!
