THE LIFE OF

ANTHONY RIFFORD

"WULF"

GUILLORY

Anthony Rifford Guillory was born on November 10, 1942, in Mallett, Louisiana.  He was the firstborn to the late R. A. and Louise Guillory.

Anthony’s family moved to Beaumont when he was an infant, and he attended Our Mother of Mercy schools and graduated from Hebert High school as a star athlete in 1961.  He excelled on the football and track fields, helping the 1959 football team to a State Championship and two State championships in the shot put, earning All-State honors in both sports.

In 1962, he went to Lamar State College of Technology, now Lamar University, on a football and track scholarship, and he became the first black student-athlete at the college.  While there, he was a football three-year letterman, a member of the 1964 Southland conference champs, Pecan Bowl winners, an honorable mention All American, and All-Southland Conference honoree.  He was a key figure on the 1963 Southland Conference championship team tracks as a shot put and discus thrower.  For his ground-breaking accomplishment and outstanding athletic career while at Lamar, he was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Honor in 1985.

In 1965, he was drafted in the seventh round by the Los Angeles Rams, where he played from 1965-1968 as a linebacker and Special teams captain. He played in 53 games with 23 starts. He closed out his career with the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1969- 1970 season.

After his playing career, he was employed at ExxonMobil refinery for over 20 years serving as Union president and a national representative.  After retiring from ExxonMobil, he was an entrepreneur owning multiples businesses.  He was a devout member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.

On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, Anthony passed away at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, Texas.

Anthony was preceded in death by his father and mother, R. A. and Louise Guillory, and sister, Hedy Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his memory Katherine Guillory (former spouse) and their sons, Charles M. Guillory (Belinda) of Bossier City, Louisiana, Paul A. Guillory (Tommie Lynn) of Pearland, Texas, Michael S. Guillory (Shannon) of Beaumont, Texas, and Marcus J. Guillory (Mannette) of Katy, Texas; Mattie Guillory (former spouse); sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; siblings,  Dorothy Susberry and Paul Guillory (Leon) of Houston, Texas, Paula Guillory, Hal Guillory, Charles “Chuck” Guillory (Marcia), and Jackie Guillory all of Beaumont, TX.  Anthony also leaves to cherish his memories with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, we would like a Memorial Donation in our Dad's name, Anthony "Wulf" Guillory, to BOSTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, the leader in Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) research! Click on the link below, and it is self-explanatory.
