Anthony John Pratscher, age 72, of Griffith, IN, passed away on February 19, 2025. Loving brother of Debra Lamoureux, Linda (Vaughn) Lagestee, Martin (Janette) Pratscher, John Pratscher, James (Susan) Pratscher and Cara Castelli. Proud uncle of many nieces and nephews. Also survived by his partner Betty Hoeffner, and many cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Emil Pratscher and his cat Max.
An accomplished drummer, Tony crisscrossed the United States and Canada in the 1970s traveling with a band, making friends wherever he went. He spent the next 29 years working for the US Postal Service in Homewood, IL where he enjoyed his work and the folks and dogs along his route.
Tony donated his time to an anti-bullying organization as well as a local historical society. As a sports fan, the Chicago White Sox and Bears were his favorite teams. He had a huge social media presence, and was very active on the two local history Facebook pages he created. He loved his hometown of Thornton, IL, antiquing, playing drums, classic cars, sixties music, nature, animals, and driving along Route 66. He will be best remembered, of course, for his clever wit and legendary jokes.
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home, 2121 Pleasant Springs Lane, Dyer, IN.
