Obituary

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia street performer who gained national attention for his performance on "The Voice" has died. Anthony Riley was 28.

The medical examiner's office in Philadelphia said Monday that the death was a suicide by hanging.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Riley was found dead Friday in the basement of an apartment where he had been staying.

The contestant on the eighth season of NBC's "The Voice" wowed the judges and became a fan favorite after belting out James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)."

He left the show in January to deal with substance abuse issues and to enter rehab.

His family says funeral arrangements are incomplete, but there will be a public memorial.

Not sure what to say?

God bless you. May the good lord love and keep your soul

What a terrible loss for his family and friends and the city of Philadelphia. I still think of his joyful singing...watching him do what he loved. He brought smiles to so many people on a regular basis including myself. I was just one of those people - a stranger, but he touched my heart. Prayers for Anthony and his family and friends. Even all these years later the city misses him.

you were amazing

he soundeed amazing

3 years after he passed, still remember the joy in his voice, how his very presence radiated such enthusiasm. He is free of his demons now, connected to the Love who created him. And for those of us left behind, his star continues to shine. My deepest condolences to his friends and family.

I enjoyed watching Anthony the preacher perform in the suburban train station in down town Philly. Sometimes Running late for work, I would stop and listen to the music that was being played. One of my favorite songs was "Can't You see". Mr Riley would address me as Smokey Robinson..... Saying give around applause to Smokey Robinson, lol. I'm Glad I had the opportunity to know Anthony and the guitar player (Rob), AkA- The preacher. Thanks Guy's for a job well done. Mr Anthony Riley, God...

You will live on in the hearts of millions!!!
