On Friday July 3rd, 2020, Anthony “Tony” Smith, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the ones he loved at the young age of 69.
Tony graduated from Lemont High School in 1968. During his senior year, 1967, he began dating Jackie (Weber). Soon after, in 1971, he married his beautiful bride. His need for speed, the challenge of repairing cars and the fumes of the garage led Tony to open his own body shop in Lockport. His bodywork was an art that was respected and admired. Several years later he started working as a tool and die maker at Molex and spent the remainder of his career as a CAD designer at Panduit where he retired in 2019.
Tony enjoyed many things in life but nothing compared to the joy he had in raising his boys. He spent countless hours and traveled many miles coaching and watching his boys, Tony and Mike, play baseball. If he wasn’t at the field there is a good chance you would find him at the drag strip racing his dragster or working in the garage. The thrill of the race reflected his passion for life. Many summers were spent with his family making memories fishing and camping. Tony effortlessly took on the role as grandpa and was at his best when his grandkids were around. Whether chasing them in the backyard or at Disney World there was always a smile on his face. His passing leaves a void too great for words.
Tony is survived by his best friend of almost 50 years Jackie (Weber) Smith, as well as his sons Tony (Hannah) Smith and Mike (Angel) Smith; seven beautiful grandchildren Cambrie, Beckham, Everett, Louis, Joaquin, Arman, and Isabella; his three brothers Bob (Debbie), Larry (Robin), John (Chris) and two sisters Sandy (Larry) and Linda (Brad) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Joliet Area Community Hospice in honor of Tony Smith
