Apr 26, 1946 – Mar 27, 2025 (Age 78)
Archie “Pete” Lamar King, of Petaluma, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 27, 2025, just one month shy of his 79th birthday.
Born in Dothan, Alabama on April 28, 1946, Archie lived a life characterized by unwavering dedication to his family, honorable service to his country, and a steadfast commitment to his work.
He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army 2nd service battalion/ 32nd artillery division from 1966 to 1968. While stationed in San Antonio, Texas he met the love of his life, Mary, and they cherished each other for 58 years. As a combat veteran of the Vietnam war, a defining chapter in his life, he developed a deep sense of duty and remarkable resilience. He embodied the values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage, as so many of his family and friends can attest.
Following his military service, Archie embarked on a diverse and industrious career from general contractor to an entrepreneur. In the early 80’s he volunteered as a coach and board member for Petaluma Valley Little League for his son’s teams and Petaluma Youth Soccer League as a coach for his daughter’s teams. 1983, he courageously established his first company, A.L.K. Construction in San Francisco. His next venture was the hospitality industry as the owner and operator of Fairwest Deli/Bar in Petaluma. Later in his career, Archie dedicated himself to help others in the elder community through his work at Our House Residential Facility for the Elderly, in Petaluma. His hard work, passion and commitment left a lasting positive impact on those he worked with, and for.
Archie was known as a kind neighbor, a great friend, beloved husband, cherished father, and adored Papa. A steady presence that was always there to help, guide, or just listen.
He deeply enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren, playing golf, going to the casino, watching the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco Giants, decorating for the holidays, and mostly just spending time with the family.
Archie is survived by his wife, Mary (Duncan) King of Petaluma, son Jamie King and spouse Amy of Petaluma, daughter DeAnda Start and husband Robert of San Diego, grandsons Rylee, Joshua, Daniel, and Tommy Buric, and his favorite granddaughter Lillian (a.k.a. Papa’s girl), and Ava Buric
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy King and Myrtle King (Peterson), as well as his siblings, Bonnie Simpson, Bille Sue Patrick, and Royce King.
A funeral service celebrating Archie’s life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Saint James Catholic Church, located at 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway in Petaluma, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Petaluma in memory of Archie King.

Uncle Pete; I enjoyed our phone call. I’m sorry we only had that one. We talked about so many things. You were worried that Daddy, your brother wouldn’t be there to guide you home. I assured you that he and your sisters would welcome you with open arms and Gods light. I know in my heart this happened. You will be missed. Shine your light onto your loved ones as they look to the sky.

Archie was an incredible grandfather to my my sons Joshua and Daniel King. From the moment they were born, he surrounded them with love, spoiled them rotten and cherished every milestone moment in their lives. No matter what they needed, he was there to support them, guide them and cheer them on from the sidelines of whatever sport or school function they were participating in. He was an honest man with a kind and generous heart, and I will always be grateful that our Heavenly Father chose...
