Adobe Creek Funeral Home - Petaluma Obituary

Ardis Thornberry, born on January 29, 1944, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026.

Ardis was a devoted mother, loving sister, proud grandmother, and cherished friend. She was married to her husband, Bill Thornberry, with whom she built a life centered around family. She shared a profound and unbreakable bond with her two sons, Billy (Dawn) and Brad, whom she loved beyond measure. Being their mother was the great joy of her life, and she took immense pride in the men they became.

Her heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her wonderful grandson, Jared Thornberry. Becoming his grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness and was a source of deep pride and joy.

Ardis shared a lifelong and treasured relationship with her sisters, Joanne Rochester and Cheryl Long. Together they created a tapestry of beautiful memories, especially during the memorable trips they took with their beloved mother, Ruth Watson. Those adventures were filled with laughter, storytelling, and the unmistakable joy that only sisters can share.

Many of us will forever treasure the time spent with Ardis at Dillon Beach—moments marked by the sound of the ocean, shared meals, and heartfelt conversations.

A special thank you to her devoted caregiver team—Zulma, Gail Watts, Ines Guzman, Isabel Roman, Lorena Muelrath, Elizabeth Guzman, Melissa, and Rosie. You will not find more compassionate or dedicated people anywhere.

She is survived by her sons, Billy (Dawn) and Brad; her grandson, Jared Thornberry; her sisters, Joanne Rochester and Cheryl Long; her nephew Randy Rochester; her nieces Nicole Looney and Shannon Long; nephews and nieces George Banda, Jessica Banda, Tori Rose, Alexandra Looney, George Rose, and Eric Long.

Ardis will be remembered for her warmth, her gracious spirit, and the deep, enduring connections she nurtured throughout her life. Her presence brought comfort and happiness to all who knew her.

Not sure what to say?

Ardis was my dearest very best friend since our first grade in Geyserville elementary school. We enjoyed many good times together for all these years. She was the most caring person I have had the pleasure of knowing. I will miss her very much.

Ardis loved San Francisco, and I loved being there with her. I also loved being at Tomales Bay with her. We used many batteries cranking up country music on the radio there. Travel was her passion until 20 years ago when her life suddenly changed... but she gracefully rolled with it.

Ardis’ beautiful spirit will forever live in my heart as the brightest part of my days in nursing. I feel blessed to have known her and send love and ease to those who loved her as well knowing how much she will be missed. ❤

Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time.
