Not sure what to say?

We visited the Laffey today and it was humbling to know that it was due to the actions of Ari and his shipmates to keep it afloat. I have a feeling that he was just a much a hero for his family ashore as he was for his floating one. Fair winds and following seas, sailor. Bravo Zulu.

Heard Ari on the front lines doc. Great man and happy that you had such a stalwart in your family.

Brief History of the Laffey

I am honored to have met Ari through the work parties I'd attended on the USS Laffey DD724. I will never forget the words he spoke about the horrific Kamikaze attacks on April 16, 1945, and about the brave shipmates that did their jobs to keep the ship afloat. R.I.P.
with your shipmates... We have the watch.

USS Laffey (DD-459)

It was on the mourn
That I saw a ship a sailing
The sea was calm
Aristides was young
And he was at the rail.

Condolences from the Mockford family to you all. I just heard the news today and wanted to say that we wish we could have joined you for the memorial service as Art did for my father in 2015. They were greatest generation veterans of WWII and amazing fathers to think about this father's day. Although I did not know much about that when we were kids it was important to hear his story about USS Laffey in more recent years and it was an honor to have known him. Jim
