Group of 10 Memorial Trees

Condolences on your loss, on behalf of several of Arlene's "State Street" neighbors [Janice McGuire & Charlie Niessner, Concetta & Maxwell Pereira, Kate Perry & Dave Caplan, and Pamela (Oribe) Haar]. We remember her fondly and miss her presence among us!

I met Arlene on a NGS genealogy trip to Dublin in the late 1990´s. She was an amazing woman, brilliant and warm. While waiting for our food in a local restaurant she struck up a conversation with our waitress in Romanian. I didn´t see theta coming! She was fearless and engaging. Then she told me of her time in Romania. I´ll never forget that trip mainly because of Arlene. She also encouraged me to pursue certification with BCG.

Arlene and I started on the NGS board at the same time and connected immediately, becoming fast friends. We roomed together at conferences, board meetings, and research trips to Salt Lake City. Staying up late many nights, we did a lot of talking and laughing. She was beautiful and lovely in every way. Rest in Peace, Arlene.

Single Memorial Tree

I had the privilege of meeting Arlene while attending Genealogical Conferences. We always enjoyed our discussions of family stories in interesting locations. She was a genuine lady who was a joy to know over those all too brief settings. I wish for all of her family and friends - a warm memory to carry you through this transition. Thank you for sharing Arlene with us.

Kate, Tess, and family, Rick and I are so sorry to learn of Arlene's passing. She was a wonderful friend and mentor, an intelligent, assertive woman who contributed much to the field of genealogy and in her role as board member of the National Genealogical Society. Mostly, we both enjoyed spending time with Arlene in DC or in Manhattan or Brooklyn or at genealogy conferences all over the country. We also adored her Golden son, Berry. Our hearts go out to all of your family as you say goodbye...

My condolences to Kate and family. Arlene was my French professor at the University of Michigan. So glad we reconnected later in life. She was such a gracious person who had lived such a vibrant life. She will be greatly missed. Maxine Henning

I was very sorry and saddened to hear of Arlene's passing and treasure the memories of our meeting in East Yorkshire, UK. My thoughts are with Kate & famiky.
