Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Arlin K. Freeman, age 85, of Herriman, passed away November 28, 2018, with his family by his side. Arlin was born August 7, 1933, in Herriman, Utah to Alonzo H. Freeman and Violet Levada Dickson.  The third of eight children and their third son. He married the love of his life Karalynn Roberts on April 1, 1956, in Las Vegas, Nevada and was later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, June 1957.  They were married for 62 years.

Arlin was never afraid of hard work. In fact he felt like hard work was a basic part of everyday.  He instilled this work ethic in each of his children. Arlin learned to work at a very young age with his brothers.  As a young child he worked on his father’s sheep ranch, feeding and herding sheep as well as working on the farm with his brothers.  His summers as a teenager were spent with his brothers on the summer range in the mountains herding thousands of sheep.  Arlin spent most of his life working two jobs. He worked for UP&L, Sugar Factory, Little Dutchboy Cookie Factory, WW Clyde as well as working at Kennecott on the Bull Gang and then the Backup crew for 33 years until he retired at the age of 52. Once his career at Kennecott was over he was able to focus all his energy and attention on what he loved the most, farming.  His love of farming and raising animals gave him a deep connection to the land which continued throughout his life.

Arlin was well known for his ability to get things done. He was a member of the Herriman Lions Club for many years where he held the position of President as well as several others.  He served on the Board of Directors for the Herriman Irrigation Company. He also held the positions of secretary and treasurer, and was the treasurer at the time of his death.

Arlin was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in his ward including Young Men’s President, Elders Quorum Presidency, Senior Saint Dinner Chair and Home Teacher. He enjoyed talking to everyone he came in contact with.  He had an amazing memory.  If he met and talked with you once he would remember all the information you shared with him.  Arlin was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He was quick to jump in and help if he saw someone in need.  All who came in contact with him benefited from his willingness to be of service.

Arlin’s love and concern for his family was paramount. Everything he did was with the goal of taking care and providing for his family.  His love for them was demonstrated in his everyday actions.  He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Karalynn, children Allan Freeman, Elko, Nevada; Julia Nokes (Kerm), Riverton; Scott Freeman (Janeal), Herriman.  12 grandchildren, 15 great children, brothers Dick Freeman (Carolyn), LaDean Freeman, LaRita Vargas (Joe), Flora Anthony ( Bill), Shauna Cullimore, Carmen Freeman ( Madeline).  He is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Violet Freeman, son Kenneth Freeman, and brother Gail Freeman.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 4th from 6-8 pm at Herriman 1st Ward building, 12737 South 6000 West, Herriman, Utah.  The funeral services will be held December 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at the same location with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 am.  Interment will be at the Herriman City Cemetery.

My husband, Dale, enjoyed his friendship with Arlin throughout the years. He hadn't seen him for many years because we moved to Florida to be in the horse business. Dale had a stroke in 2015 and so after saleing our farm there, we moved back to Utah. Sorry we won't be able to make the viewing or funeral but we send our love to the family.
