Arnold V. Lyles

Arnold V. Lyles went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 30, 2008.

He was born in Fluvanna County, Virginia, on May 10, 1942, to the late Joseph and Alice Lyles. He was the ninth of 12 children, and the husband of Gloria Lyles.

He joined church at an early age, later moving to Char-lottesville, Virginia, where he became a member of First Baptist Church and Chairman of the Trustee Board and a member of the church choir.

He was educated in the Fluv-anna County school system. He later married Gloria Vaughn and of their union two children were born Shinitia and Carmen.

He retired from the United States Post Office after 33 years of service, and was also a member of the Jefferson Lodge #20. He had many other interests, which he pursued after retirement.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, Gloria Lyles of Charlottesville, Virginia; two daughters, Shinitia Johnson and her husband, Kenneth, of Williams-port, Maryland, and Carmen Tate and her husband, Calvin, of Charlottesville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jessica and Lauren Johnson and Troye and Lewis Tate; three broth-ers, Everette Lyles and his wife, Julia, Vernal Lyles and his wife, Rynke; Roderick Lyles and his wife, Belinda; four sisters, Mertie Johnson, Letitia Wilson and husband Jessie, Joyce Lyles, and Gwendolyn Perkins and her husband, Melvin; three sister-in-laws, Barbara Witcher, Joan Turner, and Janice Binfold; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2008, at First Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Bruce A. Beard officiating.

The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.

Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2008, at the funeral home.
