Not sure what to say?

I first met Art (and Craig) in August 1996. We needed space to start an invesment bank (on a budget) and took offices in the Minnesota Hotel. Art listened to the plan and gave us a really nice deal - helped us along. Over the next couple of years, we started three companies in the Minnesota Hotel, taking additional space as we grew (Deep E Co - green footwear, The Coast Airlines and Djangos.com - clicks and bricks CD/DVD e-tailer). Art was always an attentive landlord and checked in with...

We are thinking of Art's family with our deepest sympathy.

It's been many years since I knew Art and last saw him. The latest news came as a shock. Here's the thing I will always remember about Art: He had the kindest, most infectious laugh of almost anyone I have ever met. Art's laugh was always reassuring, supportive, and empowering. Never derogatory. I can still hear it lo these many years later. Art's Laugh: The Art of Laugh.

I've know Art for almost 40 years, starting out as one of his dorm-mates at Notre Dame. He has been a good friend for all those years and I was just devastated when I found out he had cancer then subsequently passed away so quickly. My heartfelt sympathies to his family, especially his children. The world is a lesser place without him.

On behalf of the Class of 1977 of the University of Notre Dame, please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of Art, a beloved son, husband, father, and classmate. We will light a candle at The Grotto at the University in his memory, and have masses said by the Holy Cross priests. May he rest now in peace, and may God comfort you in this time of sorrow. Ginger McGowan Bishop, ND77 Class Secretary

I met Art while teaching Renata, Sal and Lorenzo at First Unitarian. I was impressed with how committed Art was to supporting his children in leading independent and interesting lives. His sense of humor was fun. It was an honor to know him. My thoughts are with all of you. We will not forget Art.

My heart goes out to Jenna, Natalia, Renata, Salvatore, and Lorenzo. Art will be sorely missed as a family friend and by the city of Portland. Our family's thoughts and prayers are with you.

Art was a friend and valued colleague on the Portland Historic Landmarks Commission. We could depend on Art's leadership. All of Portland could depend on his sensitivity to the city and the value of its historic resources as resources in the richest sense, to be conserved and used wisely. It seemed clear to Art that physically continuing the best aspects of Portland depends on keeping historic fabric alive and working. Being a developer, Art was able to personally make projects possible,...
