Arthur M. Baker

Arthur M. Baker passed from this life on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his residence in Pineville.

He was born in Gueydan, Louisiana, on February 13, 1926 and passed away at the age of 88.

He was a graduate of Pioneer High School, Darnell, and attended Northeast Junior College, Monroe. He served in the United States Army / Air Corp from 1944 - 1945. He later graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor's Degree and received a Masters of Divinity Degree from Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas.

He pastored for 38 years serving many churches in the Louisiana Conference of the Methodist Church. He was an advocate and volunteer, serving 20 years as President of the Pinecrest Parent's Association. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Pineville, where he taught Sunday School and served on many committees in the church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur McKinley and Mattie Lusk Baker; brothers, Donald Baker and Darwood Baker, and granddaughter, Lauren Baker.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Baker; sons, Michael Lee Baker and wife Beverly, Thomas Arthur Baker, Guy Andrew Baker and wife Delaina, and Robert David Baker; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Arthur M. Baker will be held at 2:00 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, 2550 Monroe Highway, Pineville, with Reverends L. E. "Buddy" Martin and Ricky Willis officiating.

The family asks that friends call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

The family has designated the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2550 Monroe Highway, Pineville, Louisiana 71360, for memorial contributions.
