Mr. Arthur Butler, age 95, passed on January 16, 2015. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, president of the Senior Usher Board, Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He was faithful in service and attendance, as witnessed by him serving as a deacon and as president of the Senior Usher Board until he passed. He retired from U. S. Steel after thirty-eight years. He enjoyed retirement life, in good health, for thirty-four years. He enjoyed hunting until age 92 and gardening until he was 95. The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Reverend Joe L. Moore, Pastor, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. His wife, Lucy, and son, Arthur, Jr., preceded him in death. Survivors include: children, Mary Kirkley, Dorothy (McArthur) Taylor, Willie (Barbara), Thomas (Sharon), Amos, Maxine Butler, Daun (Carla), and Richard (Amy); twenty grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; loving neighbors and friends.
