SUNAPEE -- Arthur N. Corbett, 81, of Sleeper Road, died July 3, 2009 after a brief illness.

Mr. Corbett was born in Stoughton, Mass., on Oct. 27, 1927, son of William S. and Marion Corbett.

He graduated from Stoughton High School and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was employed by the Stoughton Fire Department from 1948-1978, serving as the assistant fire chief from 1958 until retirement.

Mr. Corbett lived in Stoughton for 51 years before moving to Sunapee in 1978.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 of Newport and a charter member of the Massachusetts Institute of Fire Department Instructors.

His first wife, Dorothy Corbett, died in 1990.

IN HIS LIFE: He was also predeceased by sisters, Doris Fobes, Flora Holmes, Gladys Morris, Maude Sawyer and brothers Roy, Harold, George, Ernest Corbett and William Marden.

The family includes his wife, Marilyn (McGuiness) Corbett of Sunapee; two brothers, Lawrence S. Corbett of W. Bridgewater, Mass., and Robert E. Corbett of Stoughton, Mass.; two sisters, Marjorie Boutilier and Shirley Dolloff, both of Stoughton, Mass.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton, Mass., at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 2209, New London, 03257.

Bob O'Day has lost a very close personal friend and Stoughton, MA has lost a dedicated firefighter - and the best second baseman the town ever had.

The three O'Day children will dearly miss "Uncle Arthur Down the Pole".

Bruce and I are deeply sadden to have learned of Art's passing. He was such a wonderful fixture in our lives both in Stoughton and in Sunapee. Uncle Art was a great man and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Although, I had not see him in a few years, I feel as though it was only yesterday..I can still hear his voice.
