Mr. Cotterell was a humble and thoughtful man, an inspiration to me both on the baseball diamond and in the classroom. He provided that spark I needed as a high school sophomore to find joy in learning. He replaced the tedium of memorizing names and dates with analysis of issues. I still remember reading Richard Hofstadter under Mr. Cotterell's tutelage.
