Not sure what to say?

To many he was a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and an incredible author. In so many ways, Hugh touched all of our hearts. At a time of need, you could always count on him to be there for you whether you were family, a colleague, neighbor, or just a random person he met in the elevator. He genuinely had a gift of making people feel heard seen and cared for. Through the memories we share today, we celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. -We love you, and miss you terribly.

What a very sad loss for many! I enjoyed working with Hugh; he was a wonderful mentor and teacher. We exchanged students at Marshall HS. Sometimes my challenging students would blossom with their time with Mr. Ellis. Hugh also kept all of us going forward, even when times at the school were tough. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to teach with him.

Marcia and family, My sincere condolences for your loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. I was lucky to work with Hugh for many years. He was a kind friend and a great teacher. I enjoyed his sense of humor and thoughtful manner. Hugh was loved by students and I´m sure he made a difference in their lives. I know he will be missed and I feel blessed to have known him. Sincerely, Betty Zambrano

Hugh's father was a Colonel in the Marine corps in World War II in the Pacific. They were an interesting blend. The name Cadwalladr was from the Welsh side of the family, he was named after his Grandfather. Everyone called him Hugh. Hugh was very intelligent and creative. While an undergraduate as an English major...

Many fond memories of Hugh over the yeas as we gathered for family reunions and trips from his California home to our Oregon home. I was delighted when he wrote the book about his early teens and found a new adventuresome cousin. My time with him just before his passing will be a special memory.
