Arthur T. Foss, Sr. Arthur T. Foss, Sr. 62 yrs, of Woodbridge died September 12, 2010, after a long illness.

Art was preceded in death by his father, the late Arthur J. Foss of Rochester, New York.

Art is survived by his wife, Molly Kay; son, Arthur, Jr., daughters; Michelle (Josh) Morrow and Jamie Rock. Grandchildren; Allie, Autumn, Jason, Brody, Hayley, Kyrstin and Gerard of Woodbridge, VA, Mother, Frances Foss of Rochester, NY, brothers Thomas (Joyce) of Rochester, NY and Steven of Fulton, NY.

Art Foss was proud of his 27 year career in the U.S. Army, which included two tours of duty in Vietnam. Even after he retired from the Army, Art wanted to continue to serve the military families. With that in mind, in August 1999, Art became a Charter Member and the President of Rolling Thunder® Virginia Chapter 3. Art was dedicated to Never Forgetting the POW/MIAs and an advocate for the needs of today's military veterans and their families. He diligently served as the Senior State Director for Rolling Thunder® Inc. and was instrumental in starting additional Chapters in Virginia and Maryland. Art was committed to bringing government awareness to our POW/MIAs and to educate the children and the public on the need to support our veterans. Under Art's straight-forward, no-nonsense leadership of Rolling Thunder® VA Chapter 3 it raised funds and sponsored several veterans' events such as a Father's Day Cookout at McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond; Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets for active duty military families; and "The Ride Home," which is a special weekend to honor all former Prisoners of War and remember those still Missing in Action. Although he had a gruff-look and a no-nonsense approach to life, Art will be remembered most for his compassionate understanding of fellow veterans; care for his brothers and sisters of Rolling Thunder®; and his strong love for family.

Services are scheduled for 12 noon, Tuesday, September 21st, at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge, VA. Internment will be Tuesday October 12th 11 a.m. Arlington National Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and again at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family has requested contributions in lieu of flowers to be sent to Rolling Thunder VA Chapter 3, PO Box 265, Dumfries, VA 22026.

Not sure what to say?

My dear Friend, it's been a while since you passed and I still miss you so much. I was so very blessed to have you in my life. I miss the phone calls, miss the bond that we had. I knew if I ever needed a friend, you were a phone call away. You did so much for everyone. I enjoyed helping out in Washington D.C......I'll never forget the time you were invited to meet the President of the United States and growled about not wanting to. I talked to you for a while to get you to go. Afterwards, you...

His picture resides behind my bat where it is dedicated to all those who have fallen and to those who have served . Art, we were like brothers . I never served but you always treated me as I did. Never Forgotten!

You will never be forgotten! One of the finest men I ever met and had the privilege to work with and beside . To his family I say We will never forget the man of so many strengths. Rip brother. Until we meet again.

Always in our heart. Never forgotten. One of the greatest guys I knew. We became as close as brothers. We shared a lot together and were very close. I have never forgotten our times together in Rolling Thunder and his great wisdoms. Rest in Peace Brother. TOM

I am sorry. You are in the Glory of Our Heavenly Father and you can rest in peace now.

Art was my President of VA3 and by learning from Art and the members of VA3 of what what Rolling Thunder® was all about, he enabled me to start a chapter after I moved. For those who knew Art knew that his efforts toward our mission for the POW/MIA's and Veterans was tireless. He was an advocate until the very end and his influence in our organization will live on. We lost an advocate for our mission, a Warrior and a Soldier. To Molly and the rest of the Foss family, you all are in our...

I knew Art well in high school (Greece Arcadia), although I graduated a year or two before him.

My deepest sympathies go out to his wife and family.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of sorrow. May you rest in peace.
