Not sure what to say?

Art Hills was an outstanding band director at Holland High School. I was in his band from 1951 - 1954. We went to many festivals and always came back home with high honors. Art had the gift to make each student feel special and encouraged us to do our very best. He touched the lives of many young people and will always be remembered. Arlene DeCook Ruhala

Art was a kind and gentle man who welcomed many of us to our academic careers. There is a special atmosphere at GVSU and Art Hills was one of the people who created it. He will be missed, but he will always be cherished by the the people who sing "Hail to thee Grand Valley..."

Hi fellow Laker,
Thank-you for giving some loving comments to my dear ole Dad! Hope to see you on the 23rd of May

In my career in higher education, there have been few folks who epitomized knowledge, sensitivity, and leadership as well as Art. He was a fine mine in every way. His devotion to GVSU and love for music were impressive. Would that more people had his fine characteristics.

People came first for Art. I and the entire university shall miss a dear friend. The effect of his spirit shall long be remembered by GV. Sincere condolences to Art and Shirley's family.

A world class academician and family man who was deeply devoted to the development of Grand Valley...and a fun guy with a great family.

Remembering a wonderful father. All thru grade school and high school he was my Ward Cleaver. To one of my best friends, Cathy, I extend my love to you and your family. Patty

So sorry to hear of Dean Hills' passing. I remember him well from my years at GVSC in the late 60s. He will be missed greatly.

So sorry to learn of the passing of another old friend from days gone by.

A real gentleman, gifted musician, and unabashed champion of Grnad Valley State Univeristy.
