HIPWELL, ARTHUR P., 62, died at his home of a heart attack on May 28, 2011. Art was a very accomplished man, but even more, he was a great human. He had great demands on his time while a former Senior Vice President of Humana, from which he retired in 2008, but he always had time for the less...

What I wrote 9 years ago, upon learning of Art's passing, remains even more true -- today. The card from his memorial service remains on my mirror where I can see it every morning. Art was among the most talented and best human beings I've ever known. His contributions to the lives of so many people will rarely be, if ever, matched.

Art was my first friend and I was his. We met on Hillsboro Road where we both lived when we were 4 years old. I have never had a better friend. We went to Lourdes and Trinity together for 13 years and shared everything it was possible for two guys to share who were not biological brothers. But in every other way he was a brother to me. And to my mom, Roseanne Bauer Aton, Art was son # 4. I loved Art and even more, admired everything about him. He was always the guy in our class I looked up to...

We knew Art back when Deanna worked at Bacon's and Art was in law school. He was a great guy; we always enjoyed being around him. We are out of town and won't be back till September so we could not be at the services. Please accept our deepest sympathy. Bo and Rita Williams

I first met Art just a few years ago while working on a legal matter for Humana. My office is in Ohio and every time I saw Art in Louisville he was very welcoming and friendly. His job kept him very busy but he always made time to say hello and learn more about the projects for which we were asked to provide legal advice. He knew the big picture yet he enjoyed learning some of the details too. I enjoyed getting to know Art and I was saddened to hear of his untimely death. He will be...
