Arthur made significant contributions to the study of American Folk Art, but he was so much more than a sharp scholar and an observant, persistent, historical sleuth. It was his great kindness that I will remember best and longest. His caring nature complemented a remarkable bent for encouraging others, whether personally or professionally. I felt blessed by his friendship and will miss him deeply.
