Arne, Tanya and Family,
Artie was one of the most interesting and original characters I have met in my lifetime. I think of him often. Growing up in a culturally isolated New England town, he was instrumental in exposing me to the diversity of American life and Jewish heritage. Whenever I was with him I felt that I was in the presence of greatness. My deepest condolences to you all.

Dear Alice,
I was just informed of the sad news by mutual friends. Please accept my deepest condolences.
In the early sixties, Artie was one of my professors at Syracuse University. It was at Peter's memorial get-together in 2005 that we last met and had a few pleasant conversations. This occasion will remain with me forever as an additional pleasant reminiscence of Artie.

Alice, Arne, Tanya and all of the family,
We mourn with you the loss, and the decline, of Artie. We only knew him through the stories and love but we know how important a person he was to all of you, to all of the people whose education and research he contributed to, and to everyone who heard him sing. May the memory of his singing be a blessing to all.
