Dr. Arthur Mashberg

Arthur was a giant. His passing a year ago was particularly meaningful to those of us who were his residents. His mentorship was unique - he taught us how to think even more than he showed us how to do surgery. He has many "children" out there who continue to spread the word. Some of us are clinician/educators who strive to imbue our own residents with the Mashberg philosophy. I worked with Dr. Mashberg at EO Veteran's Hospital as a dental assistant from 1962 to 1966. Also living in Livingston he would occasionally drive me to work. He was a delight to work with. He would have dental interns assigned to him. I felt it an honor to assist him while he was instructing these interns. I learned a lot from those times.
