Artie ( Moose ) lived on Oceanic Ave and I lived on Seacrest Ave in Eltingville... He was a great lifelong friend and had a humorous and friendly personality as we grew up..........Artie and his older Brother Bob were great carpenters, and Artie was a devoted "Clammer "....How many times did he join me and Russel Nixon and other Great Kills friends at the " Swiss Chalet " after a day of digging clams ? After his Fire Department career he moved to Toms River, NJ..and I stayed in touch by...

Digging clams here on Staten Island in the late 70s Artie was always out there on the water. He had advice for a few of us who were waiting to be called from the FDNY list. Definitely piqued our interest and some of us followed that advice. The Messingers were longtime friends of our family. Legendary story involving my dad and Artie´s brother Bobbie. I´ve heard that one many times. Condolences from the Hagemann family.

I worked with Art in E-164 and L-84 for many years! Art was a " take charge Guy". He handed out nick names to many, and they usually were appropriate. His own Captain would refer to him as King Arthur, because of his leadership style with the men! Rest in peace Brother Art, and I´m sure that you´re now out cruising with JoAnn like the old days!

My buddy Gary and I would talk to him as he sat in an easy chair at Trixie's. He was always pleasant Gary spoke to him about his 54 Chevy and occasionally shared a joke. So sorry for your loss.

Sat next to Artie in the 6th grade at P.S. 42. My sympathies to his family.
