Dr. Orange´s work regarding thyroid disease and psychiatric conditions was inspirational to me early on in my career. I often cited his publications in my research and clinical practice. Together with Dr. Loosen, if I recall correctly , they were amongst the first in our field to connect thyroid hormone levels to brain/body physiological phenomena.

Art was one of my mentors when I did the UNC psychiatry residency 1984-88 at Chapel Hill. He was brillant, funny, and kind. I am sad to hear he has passed but i am glad to hear that he had such a long and happy life.
