Not sure what to say?

Dear Riopelle Family,
I came across a photo (this morning) of Dr. Riopelle while gazing at an old LSU yearbook of mine. I Googled his name to read about his accomplishments and realized that this was the seventh anniversary of his passing, so I decided this coincidence was reason enough to tell you about my experience. I worked for Dr. Riopelle when I was 14 (summer jobs program), and again as a student at LSU. He was a kind man who always took the time to speak to me, and I regarded him...

Dear Riopelle Family,
While glancing through an old LSU yearbook (this morning) I found a photo of Dr. Riopelle. I Googled his name just to read about his accomplishments and realized this was the 7th anniversary of his passing. He was very dear to me as I worked for him in LSU's Life Sciences department during a summer jobs program when I was 14, and later returned as a student worker during my time at LSU. Always gentle, his smile and kind words could warm any heart, and he was like...

DEAR FAMILY,
I WAS VERY SADDENED TO LEARN OF ART`S PASSING. HE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE BOTH IN THE OFFICE AS A PATIENT AND ON THE GOLF COURSE AS A PARTNER. THERE WERE MANY GOOD MEMORIES AND I WILL MISS HIS WIT AND WISDOM. MAY THE GOOD LORD COMFORT YOU AT THIS TIME AND MAY THE MANY GOOD MEMORIES ALWAYS BE WITH YOU.

SINCERELY,

JAMES HOTH M.D.

I am very sorry to hear that Dr. Riopelle has passed away. He was my predecessor at the Tulane Primate Center. When I arrived in the Summer of 1971 he was very gracious and continued to be during the time that he was continuing his research on a grant that was awarded to him before I arrived. We had a very good relationship and I was very grateful for the advice he offered me when I asked for it. Dr. Riopelle was an outstanding scientist and an exceptionally good person. I felt honored to...

Dr. Riopelle was definitely a scholar and gentleman. I had the privilege of working as his Business Manager at the Delta Primate Center. We worked closely and traveled together on several occasions. As I recall, he was most proud of his pictures of Copi (Snowflake) that were published in the National Geographic.

My heartfelt condolences to Art's family. He was a professor of mine and one of the most well-liked, interesting, and competent psychologists I've ever known. He was always gracious, thoughtful, and a true model of what psychological scientists can do and the value they bring to our world.

I have fond memories of Dr. Riopelle's physiological psychology class at LSU. His knowledge was impressive and his enthusiasm was boundless; of course, his jokes were dreadful--but that only added to his charm. I am grateful to have known him.

The work of great men is often times perpetuated by the work of their children. Although I never knew Arthur, I have the pleasure of knowing his daughter, Jean Guez, who is equally dedicated to her work in the field of mental health and her family, and a compliment to Arthur Riopelle. With deep sympathy for your loss,
