Phenix City, AL- Arthur L. Sumbry,Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend was born to the late Reverend Austin Sumbry, Jr., and the late Mrs. Estelle Sumbry on January 1,1941 in Russell County, Alabama.
Arthur graduated from South Girard High School, Phenix City, AL 1959; Atlanta College Mortuary Science, Atlanta, GA 1960; Commonwealth College Science, Houston, TX, 1961-1962, owned and operated Sumbry Mortuary and faithfully served the city of Phenix City, AL as councilman for thirty years.
Home-Going Service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 12:00 Noon, EDT at the Franchise Missionary Baptist Church. Cortege will leave from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 11:15 am en route to the church. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Left in deep bereavement is his beloved wife, Jessie Mae Ford Sumbry, Phenix City, AL; three devoted children, Arthur L. (Celeste) Sumbry, Jr., Sabrina G. Sumbry, and Arttie Pontez, Sumbry, all of Phenix City, AL; five grandchildren, Kendyl Sumbry, Yarin Christine Sumbry, Arzoria Sumbry, Armani Sumbry and Naiman Taylor; one great-grandchild, Madison Sumbry; one God-son, Reverend Kelley C. Moore, Jr., Carrolton, GA.; one brother, Austin (Catherine)Sumbry IV, Phenix City, AL; three sisters, Evelyn (JK) Stovall, Chicago, IL, Nancy Sumbry, VA, and Francis Davis, Phenix City, AL; one Aunt, Nellie Sumbry, Phenix City; one brother-in-law, Eddie Ford, Columbus, GA; three sisters-in-law, Hattie Sumbry, Peggy (Timothy) Gamble, and Margie (Perion) Purry all of Columbus, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, friends and loved ones.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sumbry Memorial & Florist; Services directed by Battle and Battle Funeral Home And Staff.
