VERRETT, Arthur R. - Of Swartz Creek, age 85, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at his residence. Memorial service will be held at 12PM Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Howard Wideman officiating. Cremation has taken place. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Visiting Nurses of McLaren Hospital. Visitation 10AM Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Arthur was born in Flint, Michigan on October 15, 1920, the son of the late Phillip and Ellen (Hopkins) Verrett. He married Edith Marie LeMay on December 13, 1938 and she preceded him in death on December 28, 1986. He married Stella Cymbal on August 10, 1991. He served in the US Army during World War II. Mr. Verrett was an avid carpenter, building garages and even his barn in Davison. He enjoyed gardening, painting and playing music on the keyboard, guitar and accordion. He retired from the GM Parts Plant in Swartz Creek in 1980, after 38 years of service and was a member of the UAW Local #659. Surviving are wife, Stella Verrett; daughter, Edie and husband Thomas Sherwood of Swartz Creek; 2 stepdaughters, Peggy and husband Mike Snarney, Connie and husband Joe Chowaniec; daughter-in-law, Giesla Verrett; 5 grandchildren, Artice Justice, Wendy (Brad) Eaton, Wade Snow, Carla (Dathan) Mason and Jason Sherwood (Laura); 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ron Verrett; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Offield; nieces and nephews, Diana (Jose'), John (Lorrain), Ruth Ann, Shelia, Kenny (Marla), Sally (Ray) and Tammy. He was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Verrett, Jr.; daughter, Marie R. Verrett and his brother, Joe Verrett. Arthur's family would like to thank Visiting Nurses of McLaren for all their care and support.
