Not sure what to say?

Gus is great. An enlightened spirit. Patient friend!

Professor Sponberg showed a true passion for teaching and his students. It has been 20 years since I graduated from Valpo and I have often thought of him. The impact he had on his students won't be forgotten. My condolences to his family.

Dear Prof. Sponberg,
You will always be remembered as the great man you are. As the caring and outstanding teacher you proved to be every class you taught. Thank you for being part of my graduate life.
You will be greatly missed.

My sympathy and condolences. I didn't know Gus as well as many of the others here, but I knew he was one of the good ones. I always enjoyed our talks together.

My sister Mary Martha Malloy told me that Gus had died and the whole panorama of my life with the Sponbergs rolled before my heart feelings sight and consciousness. The huge house on Ohio St., listening to phonograph records of Shelly Berman and Bill Martin's Concerto for headphones and contra buffoon in Asia minor, second city and, great discussions in the captain chairs in the kitchen and eventually the joys of Midgaard and later Mandeville cottage at Middle Island Point.

Prof Sponberg was the first in my college career to encourage me to write creatively and from the heart. He was a wonderful mentor with a generous spirit and a great laugh. My prayers for peace and comfort go out to the Sponberg family.

Dear Sponberg Family,
I have just now learned of your loss, and I am stunned. Gus and I spent many a jovial hour together at the AP Reading, discussing theater and laughing about our golf games. He was a wonderful guy, and I will miss him.

Bonnie-You and Gus were truly a vital part of Christ Lutheran. It was always fascinating to talk to you both about your adventures. Gus will be missed and you will continue to be cherished. My daughter Angela studied under both of you during her time at the university. When I told her of Gus' passing, she recalled those times fondly. May God surround you and your family with love and peace. We were all blessed to have Gus in our lives and continue to be blessed to have you. Pastor Tom

Bonnie, what a joyous celebration was shared by the hundreds of friends & family Sunday. I am blessed to have had Gus's friendship as well as yours. I speak for Anne too when I say that each time someone Lectors we'll think fondly of Gus. God Speed.
