Hawthorne Funeral Home - Mount Vernon Obituary

On Monday, August 16th, 2021, Ashley Danielle Serna, a loving daughter and friend passed
away at the age of 28.
Ashley was born on January 5th, 1993 in Mount Vernon, WA to Robert and Kerri Serna. She
graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 2011 and received her bachelor’s degree in
special education May of this year, 2021. While attending college, Ashley worked as a para
educator for Little Mountain Elementary School, which is where she found a love for working
with SPED students. It was at Mount Vernon High School that she honed in on the level of
education she wanted to teach at. There was never a doubt that once Ashley graduated she
would turn her focus to a career educating special needs students. She genuinely enjoyed both
her students and watching their accomplishments.
Ashley was known for her quick wit, radiant smile, passionate beliefs, her unabashed
authenticity, and being one hell of a yahtzee player. An avid sports fan, Ashley never shied away
from sporting her silver and black Raiders attire in Washington. The Seattle Mariner season was
always something she looked forward to and attended many games. Ashley was a barista for
the Coffee Barn while in college and despite not even liking coffee, she developed a fondness of
playfully harassing her customers and coworkers. Ashley held a close relationship with her
family and was at Sunday dinner every week. She had recently celebrated a one year
anniversary with her boyfriend whom she adored, Jamey. The two moved into their first place
together in Lynnwood to be closer to her recently landed job with the Bellevue School District.
Ashley is survived by her parents Robert and Kerri, brother Jacob, grandmother Cathy,
grandmother Luella, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A service will be held at
Hawthorne Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, WA, Friday August 27th at 1;00 PM. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to the Mount Vernon High School Special Education program.
