MÉNDEZ PÉREZ, Asia Minerva, 90, of Whitewood Drive passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Born in Duverge, Dominican Republic, she was the loving daughter of the late Maximina Medrano de Perez and Carlos Amado Perez. She was the loving wife of the late Minel Dalindo Méndez Hernández for 54 years. Mrs. Méndez, lovingly known as “Doña Asia”, lost her mother at the early age of four and her father, a member of the Dominican military, took “little Asia” to all his assigned locations. This was a tremendous source of pride and joy throughout her life. When she met Minel, her future husband, it was love at first sight. They married and had 14 children. They experienced great joy but also many trials and tribulations including surviving a dictatorship and civil war in the Dominican Republic. Despite it all, Doña Asia was the ultimate “superwoman”. She was an entrepreneur and successful business woman from her early teens until her retirement. Along with her husband, Minel and many of their children, they immigrated to the United States on July 4, 1977. They settled in Rhode Island and together with their children, continued their entrepreneurial quest founding several businesses that served the general and Latino communities. She was a compassionate friend and neighbor, offering her home to many newcomers until they were able to get on their feet. Doña Asia was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her over 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was happiest when spending time with her family, they were her pride and joy. Doña Asia is survived by her children Minel Dalindo Méndez and his wife Isabel, Angel Corpus Méndez and his wife Teresa, Mercedes Méndez, José Méndez, Ramon Méndez and his wife Juana, Rafael Méndez and his wife Francisca, Julia Norma Rodríguez and her husband Quilbio, Dilson Méndez and his wife Aracelis, Guarionex Méndez and his wife Adelina, Tony Méndez and his wife Yocasta, Caren Méndez, Mayra Méndez Sena and her husband Sebastian, Luis Fernando Méndez (infant who predeceased her), Hector Méndez (who predeceased her) and his wife Iris and Joan Méndez former daughter-in-law, whom she loved as a daughter.
