Assya, We miss you! ParankaM

Assya was a close, spirit Mother and big sister all in one. Highly lettered and scholarly, she would always open a book of poems or go over her notes. Very refined and sophisticated woman and so gentle and wise! She was very different from her mother Tatiana Kardinolowska--who was a great Original...Such beautiful spirits never die.

October 9, 2024 Dear Assya, We miss you and love you! Please watch over us. Paranka

Professor Assya Humesky at home. Ever a scholar, her favourite pastime was reading and study. In her later years, she would recite nursery rhymes. She was my mentor, friend and teacher... Her spirit lives... Even though she declared her life cycles were complete, I told her I did not think so... She was so divinely created...

Assya was a remarkable woman in so very many ways. She was kind, intelligent, and had a wonderful smile as well as a sense of humor. The world was truly a better place because of her presence within it. May she rest in peace. Veechnaya Pamyiat. Fr. Wayne

Assya Humesky was my PhD dissertation advisor. I'm very grateful for her support in graduate school, for her gentleness, and for her kindness. Her class on 19C Russian poetry profoundly and permanently influenced my understanding of (and love for) Russian verse. I referred to my notes from her class many times when I taught Russian poetry myself. Oddly enough, she only gave me one piece of advice on my dissertation, which was dedicated to Gulag writer Varlam Shalamov: "Don't make a saint out...

Lots of love and my humblest sympathy to all the Humesky Family on the loss of your beautiful mother and grandmother, Assya. I know she will be missed by all. Charlie DeGryse

"I have something in my heart that does not die!" Through the centuries, Lesya Ukrainka, Assya's favorite Ukrainian poetess, speaks these especially vivid words. Assya also carried in her heart the fire of poetry, the fire of love throughout her life. Eternal memory! With love and deep appreciation of her mentorship, Svitlana Rogovyk

My deepest condolences to the family of Assya Humesky. I remember Professor Humesky with great admiration. She was a member of my dissertation committee, and I took courses with her on Russian stylistics and 19th-century Russian poetry. We graduate students admired Professor Humesky for her deep knowledge and her great kindness. I have the fondest recollections of her teaching and kind mentorship. My only regret is not having taken Ukrainian with her. May she rest in peace.
