KEWADIN — Audrienne Clare Hommel, 85, of Kewadin and formerly of Macomb, Ill., died at her home on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008.
Audrienne was born in Detroit on June 27, 1923, the daughter of Thomas V. and Clara C. (Frick) Smith. She married Charles L. Hommel on July 10, 1948, in Detroit.
Audrienne worked for Fisher Body in the General Motors building and was active in the GM Chorus.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the rosary group. She also belonged to the Parish Council of Catholic Women and Church Women United. Audrienne loved music and reading. She belonged to the Women's Club, The Bridge Club, the Garden Club, The Red Hat Society, the Ladies Society and the Musicals in Traverse City, where she was the photographer and historian.
Audrienne was a dedicated wife and mother who raised five wonderful children.
Audrienne is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles "Chuck" Hommel of Kewadin; children, Charles T. (Joan) Hommel of Tacoma, Wash., James W. (Betise) Hommel of Macomb, Ill., Cathy (Stan) Cunningham of Macomb, Ill., Tom M. (Mary Beth) Hommel of Libby, Mont., and Joyce M. (William) Jones of Macungie, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Maggie Hommel, Kate Hommel, Anna Hommel, Carie Cunningham, Logan Hommel, Madeline Jones and Carly Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joyce O'Donnell.
Visitation will be on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 143 Charles St., Elk Rapids, where a vigil Service for the Deceased will be celebrated at 7 p.m. A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski presiding. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery in the spring.
Memorials may be given in Audrienne's name to Munson Hospice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
