Curran-Jones Funeral Home - West Springfield Obituary

August P. Martinelli

1932 – 2023

West Springfield – August P. Martinelli, 90, died peacefully Monday evening surrounded by his family.  August was born in Springfield, son of the late Alphonse and Emma Martinelli.  He grew up in West Springfield and was a 1950 graduate of West Springfield High School.  He worked as an accountant for the Agway Corporation for many years and after retirement worked in the Bakery at the West Springfield Stop & Shop.  He was a longtime communicant of the former St. Ann’s Church in West Springfield. He was the most kind, caring, loving and genuine man that you could have ever met. He always opened his heart to everyone and was always smiling and laughing and bringing light to wherever he was. You could always count on August to give you an impromptu Italian lesson or for him to tell you about the many places he traveled in his lifetime. He never failed to put a smile on anyone’s face, he always warmed the hearts of everyone around him.  August was also a rock for his sister Dolores and helped her tremendously her entire life with whatever she may have needed. He leaves his sister Dolores Tardy; five nieces Suzanne Sutton (who lovingly took care of him in his final days.) and her husband Stephen Sutton, Dianne and Rob Warner, Sandra and Mark Oliver, Lisa Martinelli and Lori and Dean Vogel.  He also leaves his great nieces Madison Sutton, Emma Warner, Claire Warner, and Natalie Vogel and great nephews Tyler Sutton and Deal Vogel. Besides his parents, August was predeceased by his brother Peter Martinelli.  The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday at 9:00am followed by Liturgy in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10:00 am with burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.  For online condolences please visit curranjones.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America , 188 N Main St, Doylestown, PA 18901.
