Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Roanoke Obituary

During the early hours on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va., our beloved son, brother and uncle Augustus (Gussie) Reginald Vaughn, Jr., of Salem, Va., answered his Heavenly Father’s call following a very brief illness. He was born on July 20,1978 to Augustus R. Vaughn, Sr., and Linda Cooper Vaughn.

Preceded in death by Augustus G. Vaughn and Naomi F. Edwards, Paternal grandparents and P.A. Cooper and Evelyn S. Cooper, Maternal grandparents and an uncle Billy W. Cooper. Gussie was educated in the Salem, Va., school system, attended Fork Union Military Academy, Fork Union, Va. and then attended Potomac State College in Keyser, West Va. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Rashaan G. Vaughn, niece and nephew Kallie R Vaughn and Ryan J. Vaughn of Roanoke County, Va., brother Ronald Ross of GA., uncles: Wayne Cooper and Ronald (Stephanie) Cooper of Roanoke, Va., aunts: Joyce Jordan of Salem, Va., Sheliah (Gerald) Callands of Roanoke, Va., and Evelyn Robertson of Bedford, Va., special cousin Tabatha Cooper of Roanoke, Va., numerous other cousins, friends and acquaintances.

He was blessed to have had very strong spiritual, intellectual and emotional attributes which allowed him to have a special relationship with his Almighty God. Gussie had impeccable manners and a sincere kindness that was a balm to all who met him. He had a genuine love for people and for learning and could and would dialect with whomever on any subject. While our hearts are permanently shattered….we will forever cherish the beautiful and loving memories that we have in our hearts. His everlasting presence and the deep love that he had for us will remain with us for all the days of our lives. Very special and heartwarming thanks to Dr. J. Amato, the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Urology and Comfort Care Teams and all the other doctors and nurses that cared for him during his final days.
