I am proud to have known this gentle kind man and was blessed to work under his managerial supervision at the U.S.Department of Labor. As I traveled with him on various meetings throughout the Southeastern states he was always a gentleman both in and out of the office. I had the good fortune of meeting the love of his life, his wife upon picking him up at his home in the government car for a trip. Austin. My memories of Austin as a co-worker within the U S Department of Labor were of admiration and respect. He was seen as a pillar of the community, as one who iwe are silently proud of, that he was in our number and that for some inexplicable reason , we knew that life was good. I worked with Austin for most of his career with the US Department of Labor. He was a good and gentle man who led with velvet gloves, sort of a male steel magnolia. I recall vivdily his handling of foreign labor requests during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, a job requiring dealing firmly with mounting political pressure.
