Not sure what to say?

Dearest Marge and family -- Thank you for sharing Dr. Hughes with us at USD for so many wonderful years, and it's been such a tremendous pleasure to have known and shared experiences with you and Dr. Hughes over the years! My mind goes back to his arrival at USD, and the privilege it was for me to sing at his inauguration, so many years ago. Your service for Dr. Hughes at the Immaculata was beautiful, and it was good to hear memories and see your lovely family, as well.

My husband,...

Dear Marge:

My heart goes out to you. Art was a wonderful person and he will be missed by many. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

With my prayers
Betty Brock

Papa, you were always the voice of reason. Ever guiding me in a good Godly direction, even when I was trying to go another way. You loved me unconditionally through all the hardships and shared all my joys. You were the most amazing father a child could ever have. I know you still watch over me and that I will see you again in heaven. I love you.

Dear Marge,
I just returned from being on vacation and was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved husband Art. He was a remarkable gentleman and left a lasting mark on the University of San Diego and our entire community. Please accept my sympathy and be assured of my prayerful remembrances for Art, you and your entire family.
Bless you,
Fr. Peter M. Escalante
Pastor, Mission San Diego de Alcala

Art Hughes lived his values in caring for others, on a daily basis. His influence in promoting values-based education will live on as his lasting heritage in the many institutions he founded as USD. Despite Art's many accomplishments, and the many lives he touched, Art was a very modest man with a sparkling sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Peggy Smith

I was privileged to work with Art on the CHELA and College Access Foundation Boards. He was a delight to work with, bringing his experience, wisdom, common sense and warmth to every meeting. In addition, he was a thoughtful and caring friend. I feel fortunate to have known Art.

One of the finest men our family has known. He and Marge gave so much to the University of San Diego. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.
