Ava Robertson, a dedicated forensic scientist specializing in DNA analysis and crime scene investigation, passed away on August 14, 2024. Born on March 14, 1993, Ava was a resident of New York City, New York, originally from Seattle, Washington.
Ava's academic journey led her to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Washington and a Master’s Degree in Forensic Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Her career was marked by significant achievements, including solving a high-profile missing person case in 2017 and receiving an award for her contributions to DNA technology advancements in crime-solving in 2021. Recently, in 2023, she was promoted to lead investigator in a specialized forensic task force.
Ava is survived by her parents, Marcus Delaney, a retired firefighter, and Elise Delaney, a botanist, both residing in Seattle, Washington; her older brother, Daniel Delaney, a high school math teacher, also in Seattle; her aunt Emily Delaney, a lawyer in Chicago, Illinois; her maternal grandmother, Judith Thompson, a retired nurse in Boise, Idaho; her uncle Stephen Delaney, an architect in San Francisco, California; and her cousin Rachel Thompson, a veterinarian in Portland, Oregon. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Eleanor and Richard Delaney, and her maternal grandfather, Walter Thompson.
Ava was known for her meticulous nature, empathy, and curiosity. She loved solving puzzles, hiking, reading crime novels, and volunteering at animal shelters. She leaves behind her beloved tabby cat, Milo.
Funeral services will be held at Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, Indiana, on August 15, 2024, with a memorial service on the same day. The scattering of ashes will take place at Weigel Funeral Home on August 17, 2024. A family celebration will be held at the family home in Batesville, Indiana, on August 24, 2024.
