Avis Leone Adams
North Hollywood, Calif.: Avis Leone Adams, 90, formerly of Dover Point Road, Dover, NH and current resident of Van Nuys, Calif., passed away on September 7, 2003, at the Chandler Convalescent Home, North Hollywood, Calif.
Born April 9, 1913, in Bangor, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Edward Alphonso Dyer and Nora (Sargent) Dyer.
She was a Dover resident for nearly 50 years and a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. She was employed by Hoitt & Wentworth for 25 years. She was a former member of the Dover Lodge of Moose, she volunteered many hours to United Cerebral Palsy and she was an avid bingo player. After moving to California, she joined the North Hollywood Senior Citizens Club and became a member of the North Hollywood United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Erlon E. Adams and his wife Joanne of Rochester; her daughter Mrs. (Robert) Arlene Shaw of Dover; seven grandchildren, Erlon Adams, Jr. of Milton, NH, Susie Healey of Middleboro, Ma, John Adams of Witchita Falls, Tx, Renee Shaw of Dover, Kimberly Quint of Dover, Robert Shaw, Jr. of Dover and Kevin Shaw of Madbury; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson and five nieces.
She was predeceased by her brother Donald Sargent Dyer; her two sisters Mrs. Louis (Lena E.) Ebbson and Mrs. Dorothy Tirrell; one grandson and one great grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003, at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, NH 03820 with the Rev. David L. Slater officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery.
