Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home, Inc. - Raton Obituary

Babs Malhoit Davis, of Springer, New Mexico, made her transition from earth to heaven on March 7, 2023. Babs was born on February 20, 1935 to John and Edith Malhoit of Pana, Illinois. She graduated from Assumption High School and attended Northwestern University.

In 1973 she married Dusty Davis; a handsome fighter pilot and the love of her life. Together they traveled the world and were stationed in Okinawa, Hawaii, Canada and numerous states throughout the continental United States. Babs was the ultimate fighter pilot’s wife and was well known for her gracious entertaining skills.  She wholeheartedly supported Dusty’s military ambitions, and he eventually rose to the rank of Brigadier General. Upon retirement in 1985, Babs and Dusty settled in New Mexico; first in Taos and then their final move to Springer in 1994. There they established Check Six Ranch where they proudly bred and raised Missouri Fox Trotters and American Quarter Horses. Babs was actively involved in the Springer community as well as the Colfax County Fair youth programs.  In 2021 she was named Junior Livestock Sale Woman of The Year.

Babs was preceded in death by her parents John and Edith Malhoit, her brother Jack Malhoit and her stepson Glen Davis.  She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dusty Davis, her sister Suzanne Huber, daughters Sky Armijo (Rick), Kirsten Ousey (Mike) and son Jay Pratz.  She is also survived by her stepchildren Jodi Davis, Jim Davis and Bob Davis. Babs was the much loved “Greyone” to 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A private inurnment will be held in May at the Angel Fire State Veterans Cemetery in Angel Fire, New Mexico. A memorial service will be held in May at the Check Six Ranch in Springer, New Mexico

Babs will be deeply missed by family and friends around the world.

“She is riding a good horse where the sun is warm, and the green grass is stirrup high.”

Not sure what to say?

I had the privilege of meeting Babs and Dusty when they shopped for flowers every year. She was always most gracious and sweet. My deepest sympathy goes to Mr. Davis and family.

Babs was a great friend. She had such a dry sense of humor that kept me laughing. My heart goes out to Dusty and the family. Babs will definitely be missed .

She gave me such joy!So many fun days together in over 40 years AND an education of horses and how to adobe interior walls---with mica not least. She was one of my treasures and I will think of her the rest of my days Love to you all Claire Borel

Rest in peace beloved mother of Kirsten.
