Barbara Bicknell Obituary
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Thursday, May 16th, 2013 after a courageous and valiant 2 year battle with cancer. Beloved wife and best friend of John Vlad for 15 years. Wonderful and devoted Mom of Johnny and Katie. Cherished daughter of Bert and Barb. Babs will be dearly missed by her sisters Sue, Peggy and Sandy. Beloved daughter-in-law of Jack and Joan. Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many other relative and friends. Babs truly had the special gift of enriching other peoples' lives and always put others first. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Friday, May 24th from 7 – 9 p.m. Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. Donations to the Durham Regional Cancer Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Barb was such a caring, beautiful person, inside and out. We met through the Moms group she created and ran. My son and her children, as well as all the other children enjoyed the play dates that were set up. As moms, it also gave us the chance to meet new friends, some have turned out to be life long friends.She is an angel above now, for that we cherish her new role. Barb will be missed and will always be loved by her family and friends. God bless!

Barb was the caregiver for both my girls. Gabrielle is now 6 and was with Barb from age 1. Julianne spent her first summer with Barb at age 1 and then Barb was diagnosed and had to stop care. Both girls LOVED to go to Barb's house. They played with Johnny and Katie. There was always fun and laughter at Barb's house and many trips outside to the park or just for a walk. She was the most caring, kind person I knew. Gabrielle is very sad at Barb's passing and is creating a memory book to give to the family. We will see you on Friday. God bless.

John, our condolences to you & your family! I have known Barb many years. We meet when our kids were small though the Mom To Mom play group for our kids. She was a wonderful friend! She had a heart of gold and was always thinking of others. Barb will be greatly missed! If there is anything we can do to help you and the kids during this hard time please let us know.
