Not sure what to say?

Below is my letter to Barbara that was read during her memorial service on 11/12/05.

Barbara,

We met in April 1962 in Charleston SC in the early years of my Navy career. We married in December 1963. Barbara is my beloved wife! I remember vividly walking down the city streets, through malls or anywhere and being so proud to have you.

In April 1965, we’re stationed in Hawaii with my submarine operating out of Guam. I was on patrol somewhere in the pacific...

Dear Dad, Gene, & Steven, Mom was such a blessing to me. She was my Mom not by birth but by her choosing. She told me from the day that Gene and I told her that we were going to get married that she prayed for me. She and I have alot in common coming from a southern upbring and it just made our bond stronger. She showed me how to be stronge and yet loving in many ways. She was and is a great lady that was and continues to be truly loved by her family.

Lonnie, Our prayers are with you and your family at this most trying time in your life. Barb is resting peacefully in Gods hands now. Those days in Hawaii in the mid 60's were the most memorable to us and we came away with the wonderful thoughts of You & Barb, Jim & Linda, Pete & Anne. May God blest you all.

Our prayers have been with you constantly during this trying time. We look forward to seeing your smiling face soon around our I.C.F. activities, we have missed you. In the meantime take care of yourself. God Bless, Fritzie & Joe Slavin

I'm sorry to hear that Barbara passed away. I worked with Barbara for only a few months before she retired from the Library. She has taught me a lot of things and have always been patient and understanding. My sincere condolonces to the family.

Barbara was a wonderful and unique person who made a difference in many lives. I know she will be missed in many ways by all of us.

Though I was very young when I knew Barbara, I have very vivid, fond memories of her. I'm thinking of the whole family during this difficult time.

Dearest Ski, Gene and Steve. What wonderful memories we have of our times together over the years--good, loving, wonderful times of playing cards (too bad you and Bob ALWAYS lost)sharing meals, being friends. It's been 40-years of memories and they will always be dear to me. Barbara shared our first child (her little Amazon) and cared for her while I went to school and blended our families during those years. She loved my mother almost as dearly as I did and that was wonderful for me. We...

I didn't know Barbara very well, but whenever I called, Barbara was so gracious. Once I stopped by and she was so thrilled to show me the room addition to their house. She was a very sweet person. May God be with you and your family,Lonnie.
Sincerely,Don & Mary
