Feerick Funeral Home - Shorewood Obituary

Barbara Ann Hokans, age 66, of Glendale, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. She was born on September 20, 1953 in Amherst, Ohio to Donna and Anthony Meyer. Barb is survived by her husband, Rickard Hokans; daughter, Sharon (Brian) Coffey; son, Jeremy Plunkett; grandson, Caelum Coffey; sisters, Patricia Breno, Janet Douglas, and Christine Seles; several nieces and nephews; and many additional beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter Donna Plunkett and her husband Robert Maglio, M.D.

Barb grew up in the Toledo, Ohio area and graduated from Rogers High School in 1971. She deeply enjoyed being a mother to her three children. In Toledo, she worked many years for the Therma Tru Corporation in accounts receivables and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. She moved to Glendale, Wisconsin in 2005 where she has worked at the Next Act Theatre, volunteered nurturing infants, and volunteered in an elementary school helping children develop their reading skills.

She was a devoted friend and she cared deeply about her family. Barb was a passionate bibliophile and enjoyed her book club. She loved to laugh, take care of others, spend time with friends and family, take walks, learn, create, talk with everyone, and travel.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 P.M.

Memorials in lieu of flowers will be directed to Barbara’s favorite charities.

Not sure what to say?

Shari and Jeremy,
Praying for Gods peace and comfort for you. Fond memories of our Christmas parties at your Grandma and Grandpa Plunketts and at my parents house, Wayne and Virginia Kohn. I remember you, Jeremy, and my Dad celebrating your December birthdays together. Fun times with your Mom. With our sympathy, your Dads cousin, Kris(Tom) Kahl

Shari and Jeremy, I am so sorry. Your mom was the greatest! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Aunt Cathy

Though I knew Barb very briefly, I was truly touched by her generosity and enthusiasm for people and life. I'm so sorry for your loss. The world is a little less vibrant knowing she's gone.

I so wish that I could be there with you all today. My cousin, you left us too soon and you will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Pat, Janet, Chris, Rick, Jeremy, and Shari. May you always have fond memories of Barb until we see her again in heaven. Love to all!

Jeremy,
I'm saddened by the passing of your Mother. Nothing prepares us for the loss of this magnitude. Just know that you have great support at work and if you need to talk, I'm always available. Thoughts are with you today as everyone gathers to celebrate the life of your Mom.
Kim Herrick, CSS

Barb will be so deeply missed. The memories of all of us- the many cousins- as children, tumbling around our grandparents home, will be with me forever, as will memories of Barb's generous, lively and kind spirit and the love of books we shared with our grandmother. I wish it had been possible for me to arrive in Wisconsin in time to be with you all for services. Please know that I am with young spirit- and mourning with you this loss of someone we all loved. I still can't believe she's...

My deepest heartfelt condolences to the family of my dear friend Barb.
Such a tremendous loss of a beautiful lady.
Much love,
Barb Frey

Rick, Jeremy & family,
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Barb. Barb was so kind and generous. In the Bible it says that the world is not our final home, our true home is in Heaven where we will all be together again. Love and prayers to you and the family. Patty (Evan's sister) & Dave Rockne.

Rick - I am deeply saddened to hear of Barbara's passing. I know she brought tremendous joy to your life, and the two of you demonstrated that love can be found at any stage of our lives. Please give my regards to her family - I will keep you and Barbara in my prayers.
