I think Dr. Kardas, Mrs. Kardas at the time was my elementary teacher, 4th or maybe 6th grade at Fairview South in Skokie, late 1950's or early 1960's. If so, I remember her fondly. She was tough but fair and a very good teacher. My condolences either way.
