Miss Bray was a teacher's aid on loan from Longwood College when my wife and I were in grade school together. She was loved by all the students she came in contact with. We loved her dearly and she showed the same affection to us as well. Our class recently had our fiftieth reunion and were saddened to hear that she has passed away. We were hoping to reconnect with her.

As many others have already written, Mrs. Knowles was also my favorite teacher. My elementary through high school years were developed by her push, drive, and wanting to see her students achieve. Mrs. Knowles was my 3rd grade teacher at Walnut Hill Elementary; my 5th grade teacher at Virginia Avenue; and my 8th, 10th, and 11th grade teacher at Tidewater Academy. It was from her influence that I developed the love for the sciences and received my BS in Biology at Virginia Tech. Her teaching...

There are no words that really explain what Mrs. Knowles meant to me. She was the one who stood behind me and pushed when I doubted myself. She was always making me take that step out of the box to go just a little farther. She is and was "That Teacher" to me and so many others. I was very sorry to hear about Barbara. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was one of my favorite teachers at Tidewater. She was one of a kind. Hang in there and be there for each other. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
