Barbara Laska

Barbara Remington Harris Laska, 89, of Media, died April 14 after contracting COVID 19.  She was 89 years old.

Barbara was the fifth of six children born to Earl and Isabel Remington.  She grew up outside Morton, Pa. and graduated from Ridley Township High School in 1948.   She met her first husband, Robert H. Harris Jr., at the Chez Vous skating rink in Upper Darby and were married in 1950.  After beginning a family in Grace Park, in 1960 they purchased and moved back into the same home in which she grew up.

She was a dedicated mother, and enjoyed attending the various concerts, activities and sporting events her children participated in, and did the same later with her grandchildren. As the kids grew older, she was among the first students to attend Delaware County Community College, where she began taking classes to become a teacher.

After starting as an assistant at a  kindergarten near her home, Barbara later became  a teacher’s aide for the Delaware County Intermediate Unit. After receiving her associate’s degree from DCCC  she graduated from Cabrini College and became a special education teacher at the Folcroft Vo-Tech School.

Upon her retirement from teaching, she and her husband traveled to Florida and across the country on various trips.  She was also an active gardener throughout her life, and played the piano from childhood. Following the death of her husband she later married Edward Laska of Wallingford, and they moved into the Riddle Village retirement home.  Mr. Laska died in 2011.

Barbara was an active member of Leiper Presbyterian Church and continued to attend services there until it closed in 2012.   She also enjoyed watching and going to Phillies games, and taking vacations with her family in Wildwood, N.J.

She is survived by her sons, Robert and Brian R. Harris; her daughter-in-law, Nancy; grandchildren Jordan and Jacob; her sister Joan Van Horn, and many nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Barbara Ann,  passed away in 1966.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
