Barbara Jean (York) Phinney, 73, of George Street, formerly of Maple Terrace, Attleboro, died on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Norman Elmer Phinney, Sr. who died on June 16, 1981.

Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on December 6, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Velma (Reeves) York. She resided in the City of Attleboro for most of her life.

Mrs. Phinney was a member of the Bethany Village Fellowship in South Attleboro.

Prior to her retirement she was employed as an assembler for the Augat Company and Foster Metals both in Attleboro.

She was a fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed creating crafts and sewing.

Mrs. Phinney was an ardent bowler as part of the North Attleboro Bowling League and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

She was the mother of Sheila A. Phinney of South Attleboro; Norman E. Phinney, Jr. of Attleboro; Brian W. Phinney of Attleboro and Michael J. Phinney of Corinth, Vermont; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; her siblings: Richard York of Brockton; Edith Kjersgard of Brockton; Shirley Cadwallader of Boise, Idaho; Christine Zaniboni of Mansfield; Charles York of Mansfield and Bradford York of Mansfield and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was the mother of the late Robin Marie (Phinney) Burns who died on February 21, 2007 and was the sister of the late Allen York and Mary Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

A Funeral Service will follow visitation on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 4:00 PM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial will be private in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro. Children’s room is available during visitation and funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Phinney’s name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of MA, RI, NH and VT, 129 Morgan Drive Norwood, MA 02062.

Mom, I was sitting outside the other day and all I could think about was that I miss you so much. I thought how you would just love sitting there with me, as you loved to sit outside in the nice weather. I remembered how we used to sit outside at home when Joey was little. I Love you!!! and miss you terribly! At least you got to meet your new soon to be Son in law. I really needed a hug from you, but I'm comforted knowing you are here with me everyday. Barbara was a very special part of Bethany Village for so many years. May the Lord open wide the gates of Heaven and receive her soul granting her eternal peace.
